Driving is a vital Activity of Daily Living (ADL) and plays an important role in supporting independence and community participation. Because each individual’s needs are unique, service costs are determined following a comprehensive evaluation.
It’s important to note that most traditional insurance plans do not currently cover driver evaluation, rehabilitation, or adaptive vehicle modifications, as these services are often not classified as medically necessary.
However, there are external organizations and programs that may offer guidance, funding assistance, or additional resources for individuals who meet specific eligibility criteria.

Texas Residents
Community Independence Solutions is centrally located in San Antonio, Texas, and proudly serves clients across the state. For individuals residing outside of our primary service area, travel-related fees may apply.
All services are billed at an hourly rate and are tailored to each client’s individual needs. Initial cost estimates are based on the evaluation and do not include the possibility of additional training sessions or re-testing, which may be recommended as part of the rehabilitation process. Final costs may vary accordingly.

Connect+Ability
ConnectAbility is a community partner serving Bexar County and surrounding areas. Their services include care coordination, family and caregiver support, and peer mentoring, all offered at no cost regardless of income or insurance status.
ConnectAbility currently serves individuals with conditions such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, stroke, and other related injuries.
Through a partnership with Community Independence Solutions, ConnectAbility may provide financial assistance to qualifying patients to help offset the cost of driver training and vehicle modifications.

San Antonio Independent Living Services

SAILS is a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services to increase self-determination and independence for persons with disabilities in San Antonio and surrounding counties.
SAILS is recommended for individuals on a fixed income (e.g., SSDI) who are unable to work and require adaptive equipment to drive.
If approved, SAILS may provide funding for driver training and necessary vehicle modifications.
To apply for services or to see if you live in a region served, please contact SAILS directly using the phone number or website below. If approved, a SAILS case manager will refer you back to us to proceed with driver evaluation and any subsequent training.

Louisiana Residents
At this time, Community Independence Solutions is exclusively contracted with Louisiana Rehabilitation Services to provide driver training for their clients throughout the state of Louisiana.

Louisiana Rehabilitation Services - Vocational Rehabilitation Program
[LRS - VR Program]
Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS) offers a Vocational Rehabilitation program that supports individuals with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining, and maintaining employment through services such as career counseling, job readiness training, and assistive technology.
Community Independence Solutions has partnered with LRS to provide driver evaluation and training for clients who meet program criteria. If approved, LRS may authorize services as part of an individual’s employment goals and refer clients directly to our team for services.
